safe arrival

Wow. Since we had five people and lots of stuff, the airport limo was a bus. We actually filled the luggage area completely, even if we only needed 5 of the 24 seats in the bus. The whole airport experience was fairly relaxed thanks to Rob's great planning. Even better, the check in staff neglected to charge us for our extra baggage weight, which we had fully expected. It was pouring rain in Toronto, so our bike boxes were a little damp when we got them back. When we boarded the plane, a mega security alarm was going off inside the airport, which didn't make us feel very secure. The flight went well, but the kids didn't sleep as much as I'd hoped. We were all a little groggy when we arrived. The pick-up at the airport was slick; Mieke was there with her funky tour guide van which easily fit all bikes and luggage. She drove us to our hotel in Weesp, where they graciously prepared our room for 10:00 am, cooked us a nice breakfast of "toasties" which it turns out to be grilled cheese and ham sandwiches, and then we all climbed into bed for an hour. The hotel has a handy storage room for our bike boxes, and enough work space for Rob to rebuild the bikes. Rob finished four bikes yesterday and is about to do the last bike today. We all slept lots last night (the kids slept 6:45 pm until 9:30 am!!!)
